Save the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus! Today I shared a website
devoted to saving this rare (and on the brink of extinction ) specimen.
We raised Monarch butterflies during our biome unit, so they are
passionate about making a difference. One of the ways to attract this
creature is to wave a dollar bill in the air. The tree octopus swoops
down and takes it to build its nest. So, we decided to practice this
move. I let them know I would film them and send it into the website
to show how we are doing our part. They could not believe when at the
end of the film I said, "April Fool!" They consider me to be quite
serious about their learning-so this moment was quite wonderful. The BIG learning--not to believe everything you see on the
web--and to question authority in a respectful way.
Part 1
The link to the siteis at the bottom of this post. As you can see it is very well designed. We went over the site and looked at the different features. Kids were convinced that their help to save the Pacific Tree Octopus was needed.
