Welcome to Our Class!

Dear Fifth Grader,                           September 2015
Welcome back to your final year as an elementary student! Fifth grade is a time for many opportunities. You are the leaders of the school and much is expected from you. I have utmost confidence in your ability to meet that challenge. The standards for fifth grade will be embedded in our projects. The units are rich and interesting. Our opening project is titled, Road Trip inspired by my recent travels to Mt.Zion and Bryce Canyon this summer. If you have any pictures or memorabilia from your visit to a National Park please bring them to share.
Our units in social studies will be about; geography, economics, explorers, colonies , American Revolution and government. In science we will learn about habitats, solar system, energy and matter as well as inquiry. In October, our classroom will help raise salmon from the Department of Fish and Wildlife. We will also continue to build our mathematical skills and delve deeper into division, multiplication, fractions and decimals. Along with the new curriculum, you will also learn more about yourself, others, and the world around you! Fifth grade is a most interesting and demanding year as you prepare for middle school. With hard work, determination and a positive attitude you will learn, grow, and ENJOY your stay.
Over the next few weeks we will learn more about each other. One of your assignments is to complete this survey about multiple intelligences. We will discover how we all have different "smarts" and different strengths. We will build on the strengths,as well as develop those that are not as strong. There are no right or wrong answers. Please take the survey and print the graph at the end to bring back to school. Here is the link, Multiple Intelligence Survey. Be thoughtful when answering the questions. Write your name on your graph.
Another item to bring by the end of the first week is an empty cereal box, if you have an extra bring it for someone else as well. These will be used for our first All About You! project.
Your parents also have homework! They have a letter to write to me about YOU! In a Million Words or Less Tell Me about your Child, these may be emailed to me at mehreen_krueger@beaverton.k12.or.us or you may bring them in on or before September 18th. Here is the shareable link to the document In a Million Words or Less.....
Healthy snacks are encouraged as long as the first three ingredients are not sugar. You may eat your snack when you are hungry.
It will be helpful for you to bookmark this blog, http://krueger-connection.blogspot.com/

Finally, view our videos from last year’s Signal to Noise competition. Our films were finalists in the district wide event. Learn it All and Math Attack were overall winners. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnaSIVMOhpGtLau8Q6zdc7wBLq3AxJxL4
I hope to make some films with all your talents this year as well. Looking forward to meeting you on Thursday, September 3rd at 3-4p.m.

Affectionately Yours,
Mrs. Krueger

  1. Aww this brings back so many gret great 5th grade memories I hope you guys have a wonderful year. A Note to the students don't wear Mrs.Krueger too much and be good to her because as strict as she may be she is awesome and fun. Live while it lasts and remember don't think you can't cause you can. Mrs.Krueger will teach you well, like a proper teacher. She is one of the best teachers ever. Do think she doesn't know what she's doing. You will often hear her say "I have been doing this for a 100 million years" this is to imply that she knows what she's doing, and she does. She is a fun teacher and a understanding one too. But don't be saying " my dog ate it" she won't buy it. I was with her last year and I wish I could experience it again. It was truly an amazing year. If you don't think you'll cry on the last day of school your wrong . you will. I didn't think I would but I did. Schools rough but Mrs. Krueger makes it fun. I can't wait to see the s2n videos! When it comes to s2n Mrs.Krueger could never be more serious. Have an amazing year! I know I did!

    1. Thank you for the kind words. You all were a fabulous class. Even a teacher who has taught for a "hundred million " years loves to hear from her old kids.
